"When I was told that a doctor donated $25,000 to the program, I was really happy"
For patients who suffer from skin cancer, unsightly lesions and skin irritation are an everyday struggle. As a member of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Dr. Potozkin is specially trained in the most advanced, effective treatment of skin cancer. Mohs is an outpatient surgical procedure that can be performed using a local anesthetic.
During the Mohs procedure, Dr. Potozkin will map the cancerous tissue using a microscope. This will help him to identify the entire affected area and to be as accurate as possible when removing the cancerous tissue. He will then surgically remove the cancerous tissue and examine it under another microscope. If any cancerous tissue remains, he will then attempt to remove that tissue.
During Mohs Micrographic Surgery, Dr. Potozkin can remove cancerous tissue while preserving the most amount of healthy tissue as possible. Afterward, the entire scope of the cancerous tissue can be examined immediately to ensure all of the affected area has been removed. Mohs surgery is considered the most effective treatment for skin cancer because it removes the most cancerous tissue and causes the least amount of scarring of any treatment.
As with any surgical or medical procedure, there are risks involved such as infection or bleeding. However, complications are rare. Dr. Potozkin and his staff will apprise you of all the risks and benefits associated with Mohs. East Bay area patients have the unique opportunity to speak personally with Dr. Potozkin and his friendly staff about this procedure and have any and all questions addressed.
