As we age, we may become aware of changes in facial skin color or the development of unsightly spots. IPL technology allows your dermatologist to reach layers of the skin that lie below the skin's surface. This provides dramatic results, but the procedure is gentle and requires less recovery time than traditional treatments. Additionally, in some cases, IPL can be used to enhance the effects of laser skin resurfacing.
Dr. Potozkin employs IPL technology at our East Bay office to reduce the effects of sunlight on the face. Prolonged exposure can cause large brown freckles from the sun, enlarged pores, rosacea, and broken capillaries that result in reddened skin. IPL technology can help to permanently eliminate these imperfections by emitting a special light to break up pigment in these irregularities. IPL can be used anywhere on the body where there is affected skin. Often, patients receive treatment on the face, neck, chest, and arms.
FotoFacial, a form of IPL, is also used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, large pores, and broken capillaries.
Often, patients select IPL because the recovery time is much shorter than those of some other facial rejuvenation procedures. Patients who are active or unable to dedicate a large amount of time to recovery find this to be an excellent alternative.
Dr. Potozkin is also proud to offer VersaPulse Laser treatments to his patients. This product is used to treat small, red veins on the face, brown spots, and to remove unwanted tattoos. This revolutionary new product treats these problems by directing a highly concentrated beam of light towards the affected area. Short bursts of green light treat the fine veins and brown spots by minimizing the purplish or brown color associated with these skin problems.
Most patients experience little discomfort while undergoing this laser treatment due to the comfort-enhancing VersaSpot Chilled Tip. This tip allows the patient's skin to be cooled while undergoing the procedure. Depending on the size and discoloration of the affected area, the entire laser treatment takes approximately 15 minutes and may need to be repeated up to three times. There are no incisions and the procedure can be performed in our East Bay office.

The effects that sun, lifestyle, and other elements have on our skin can be dramatic. As we grow older and have more exposure to the environment, our skin tends to develop wrinkles and can even retain scarring. Fortunately, Dr. Potozkin offers laser skin resurfacing to East Bay patients who seek clearer, more beautiful skin. With the Ultrapulse CO2 Laser, we can smooth the lines, scars, and damaged skin that have formed as a result of sun exposure, wind exposure, or acne. During laser skin resurfacing, gentle wash of laser light safely removes the damaged layer of your skin, revealing a fresh, new, healthy appearance.
Following laser skin resurfacing, some special caring is required. Dr. Potozkin recommends cool compresses and a particular skin-care regimen. You may also experience some redness, which may last for up to six months. However, after a couple of weeks, you should be able to conceal this with cosmetics. You will also need to avoid exposure to the sun. Once the effects of the laser skin resurfacing have faded, you should see a dramatic improvement in the quality and appearance of your skin.

The CoolTouch Laser System is a revolutionary laser treatment for patients suffering from acne, acne scars, and fine lines. This non-ablative resurfacing procedure stimulates collagen while still protecting the outermost layer of the skin. This allows for maximum effectiveness with very little downtime or discomfort.
The CoolTouch system works by delivering laser energy to the subdermal layers of skin. Unlike microdermabrasion, this laser system does not remove or sand away the top layer of skin. Instead, it uses the laser to stimulate collagen below the surface. The new collaged that is created as a result of this treatment provides smoother, softer looking skin.
Please contact Dr. Potozkin for more information about CoolTouch laser rejuvenation.
