Relax Your Way to Smoother Looking Skin with BOTOX® Cosmetic
Often, patients are interested in learning more about what BOTOX® Cosmetic is and how it works. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a synthesized protein that is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles around the face. It can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in the armpit area.
To treat fine lines and wrinkles, BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected into facial muscles to block the transmission of nerve impulses. This essentially relaxes the muscles under the face, reducing the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles. When used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in the pit of the arm, BOTOX® Cosmetic will be injected into the affected area to block the chemical transmitter that causes sweating. The BOTOX® Cosmetic injection will usually prevent armpit sweating for 3 to 6 months.

Restylane® is a wonderful filler that became available in the United States in 2003. Restylane® is made of hyaluronic acid, which already exists in the human body. The clear gel form of hyaluronic acid that comprises Restylane® is biodegradable and compatible with the human body. CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are human-based injections of collagen that have been specially grown in a laboratory. There are two major advantages to the human-based collagen. Because this collagen is naturally found in the human body, there is very little risk of having an allergic reaction to it, and patients are not required to undergo a skin test prior to receiving the treatment.
Injections of collagen will be performed in Dr. Potozkin's office. This nonsurgical treatment can smooth out wrinkles around your eyes, lips, chin, or nose, and also give your lips a fuller, plumper appearance.
