Fraxel® Laser System

Serving the East Bay – Laser Skin Resurfacing with Fraxel® Technology

re:pair™ vs. re:store™

Fraxel® re:pair™

  • Maximum results
  • 1 - 2 treatments
  • 1 - 2 weeks downtime

Fraxel® re:store™

  • Great results
  • 4 - 6 treatments
  • 1 - 3 days downtime

Known for his commitment to seeking out and using the safest, most effective technology available, Dr. Jerome Potozkin offers patients throughout the East Bay and beyond breakthrough laser skin resurfacing treatments with Fraxel® lasers. Laser skin resurfacing, or laser skin renewal, is often an excellent treatment option for patients who wish to improve the appearance and health of their skin. By undergoing laser skin resurfacing, patients can have fresher, younger skin and reduce discoloration, fine lines, and wrinkles. Dr. Potozkin utilizes two types of Fraxel® lasers – the original re:store™ laser and the brand new re:pair™ laser – in order to best meet each patient's specific needs and preferences. Learn more about the Fraxel® laser treatments we offer by contacting our practice today and scheduling a consultation with Dr. Potozkin.

The Fraxel® re:pair™ Laser

After more than two-and-a-half years of clinical testing, the newest laser from Fraxel®, the re:pair™, is available to Dr. Potozkin's patients from the East Bay and its surrounding areas. Dr. Potozkin is one of the first 20 doctors in the world to offer this treatment, which offers maximum results in the fewest number of treatments.

Advantages over Traditional CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

Dr. Potozkin is excited to offer patients who come to his East Bay practice the new Fraxel® re:pair™ CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment. The re:pair™ laser is a substantial improvement over traditional CO2 laser technology for a variety of reasons, most notably in the way that it treats the skin. While treatment with traditional CO2 lasers is highly destructive to the skin, the re:pair™ laser treatment is designed to be particularly selective, leaving areas of healthy skin surrounding the affected cells.

Further advantages that the Fraxel® re:pair™ provides over traditional CO2 lasers include:

Improved Downtime: Thanks to the selective technology that the re:pair™ laser uses, patients experience less downtime than they would with traditional, bulk ablation CO2 lasers. Invasive CO2 lasers often left patients with wounds that took at least two weeks to heal, whereas skin treated with the Fraxel® re:pair™ laser heals within 3 days, and swelling subsides within 2 weeks.

More Treatable Indications/Areas: While traditional CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatments can reduce wrinkles, skin pigmentation, and photodamaged skin, it is limited to treating the facial areas, due to the invasive nature of the laser treatment.  The Fraxel® re:pair™ laser, however, can safely treat non-facial areas, such as the neck, chest, and arms.

No Risk of Hypopigmentation: Patients who undergo a traditional CO2 laser treatment sometimes find that their skin has healed a shade lighter than it was before treatment, a condition known as hypopigmentation. However, with the Fraxel® re:pair™ treatment, the risk of hypopigmentation is eliminated.

Compared to traditional CO2 resurfacing and even the original Fraxel® re:store™ laser, the re:pair™ laser provides Dr. Potozkin's patients maximum results in the fewest treatment sessions. In addition, patients undergoing the re:pair™ treatment do not need to worry about the risks and dangers associated with general anesthesia, as the procedure is performed in Dr. Potozkin's office under local anesthesia.

The re:pair™ Treatment

Like the Fraxel® re:store™ laser before it, treatment with the re:pair™ laser system is based on the Fractional MicroDermAblation™ (FDMA™) approach to laser skin resurfacing. Laser energy is focused on only those areas that need improvement or treatment, leaving the skin less irritated and better able to heal. The result is a selective, minimally invasive laser skin resurfacing experience that is far gentler on the skin.

In addition to the FDMA™ approach, treatment with the Fraxel® re:pair™ laser takes advantage of a groundbreaking form of laser skin resurfacing called Fractional Deep Dermal Ablation™ (FDDA™), which allows the re:pair™ CO2 laser to treat skin indications beyond discoloration and wrinkles. The laser penetrates the skin to remove (ablate) targeted areas of the epidermis and deep dermis safely.

An Alternative to The re:pair™ Laser: Fraxel® re:store™

Though the Fraxel® re:pair™ laser may be an effective and preferred treatment option for many patients coming to Dr. Potozkin's East Bay office, others may opt for a different method of laser skin resurfacing. The Fraxel® re:store™ erbium doped laser – the original resurfacing laser from Fraxel® – offers many of the same benefits as its successor, the re:pair™ laser. In accordance with his commitment to safety, Dr. Potozkin waited two years after the initial release of the re:store™ laser, after modifications had been made to the laser to improve patient safety.

Patients who undergo the re:store™ laser treatment can experience great results with minimal downtime. While the re:pair™ laser provides maximum laser skin resurfacing results with only one or two treatment sessions, the required downtime of 7 to 14 days may still be too long for some patients, especially for those who are unable to take time off work. In such cases, patients who desire smoother, younger-looking skin without the extended downtime of the re:pair™ laser can opt for the Fraxel® re:store™ treatment. The re:store™ laser requires only 1 to 3 days of downtime, meaning patients can come in for treatment on Friday and go back to work as usual on Monday. However, multiple re:store™ treatments – typically between 4 and 6 sessions – are required.
