Dr. Potozkin can do much more than enhance your facial beauty. His "better body" care can help you achieve a more sculpted figure through liposuction, assist in tattoo removal, and treat skin cancer with a surgical procedure called Mohs. At our East Bay office, Dr. Potozkin’s advanced techniques, state-of-the-art equipment, and specialized care are centered on you and your needs for beautiful results.
You exercise, you eat healthy, but no matter what you do, there are certain areas of your body that just don't look as good as you would like them to. Tumescent liposuction, which was pioneered by a dermatologist, is one of the safest, most effective ways to surgically remove fat that has not responded to diet and exercise. Dr. Potozkin, who currently performs tumescent liposuction of the abdomen, hips, knees, thighs, arms, chin, and neck, has undergone extensive training in order to provide you with this liposculpting procedure. During tumescent liposuction, Dr. Potozkin uses a special solution comprised of saline, a local anesthetic, and adrenaline, which helps to shrink the blood vessels. After injecting the solution into the treatment area, a thin tube called a cannula is used to remove unwanted fat. The benefits of tumescent liposuction include increased safety and reduced bruising because the saline solution bonds the fat together, making it easier to remove.
After your treatment, you may need to wear a special garment to help your skin conform to your body’s new shape. This garment also helps reduce bruising and swelling, and it is not noticeable underneath your clothes. You should be able to return to work within a few days. We recommend you avoid any strenuous activity for up to one month, although you can generally resume your regular routine within a couple of weeks. The results will not be immediately noticeable, but you should realize the beautiful, slimming effects within four to eight weeks. (A small amount of residual swelling may remain for up to six months.)
In 2003, we started performing power liposuction using vibrating cannulas that remove fat with less trauma and less bruising.

Although they may be small, spider veins underneath the skin on your legs, face, and body can make you feel unattractive. Varicose veins, which are sometimes raised above the surface of the skin, can be rather painful as well. Dr. Brar can rid you of unwanted, unsightly veins using an advanced treatment called sclerotherapy. Performed at our East Bay office, a special solution in injected into the vein using a very fine needle. This solution causes the lining within the blood vessel to swell shut, preventing blood from entering the vein. Over the next few weeks, the vessel will fade until it is nearly or completely invisible.
You should experience little to no discomfort during the sclerotherapy procedure. You can generally return to your everyday activities right away, although you should avoid strenuous activity for at least 24 hours. If you've had sclerotherapy performed on your legs, we may recommend support hose to help achieve more effective results. You may experience redness, swelling, bruising, or tiny ulcers at the injection site. However, these should subside within a few weeks or months. In just a short while, you should be delighted with the results.

That tattoo represents a time and place in your life that you no longer feel the need to hold on to. Fortunately, Dr. Potozkin offers tattoo removal for East Bay patients who wish to remove unwanted body art. Using a VeraPulse C Laser, Dr. Potozkin gently breaks up the tattoo ink, which will later be absorbed by the body. Tattoo removal usually must be performed in several visits to completely eliminate the appearance of the ink. Each procedure can last from 10 to 20 minutes and causes some discomfort and redness.
In addition to tattoo removal, Dr. Potozkin offers brown spot and birthmark removal for patients who would prefer to live without skin discoloration. Dr. Potozkin can gently reduce or erase these irregularities through the use of laser treatment. This non-surgical laser procedure can be adjusted to deliver just the right amount of light to effectively "break up" the pigment over the treated area. Your body will continue to break down the pigment for the next several weeks until the discoloration fades or disappears. More than one treatment may be necessary. Like tattoo removal, you may experience some mild side effects, such as redness, tenderness, or swelling. However, you should be able to return to your regular activities right away.
Please contact our office to learn more about skin discoloration or tattoo removal. East Bay dermatologist, Jerome Potozkin, is happy to address all your questions and concerns.
